Love and loss: two sides of one coin. If we deeply love, we will grieve. That is a brutal fact of life. Finding ways to navigate our way through our grief rather than denying our grief is an act of self-care and can support us in our healing journey.
Grief can come from many sources- the death of someone we love, the loss of a beloved pet, the death of a baby, or the loss of a pregnancy. Even the loss of a job or a change in life circumstances can create a ripple of grief in our lives.
Every human being will experience love, loss and grief at some time. Each loss affects us deeply and has the potential to turn our lives upside down. While everyone experiences grief in their own way, there is some small comfort in knowing others have walked a similar path.
COMFORT & HEALING
Sometimes we need a little extra support–creature comforts to nurture, time out from a hectic schedule, a change in routine and extra sleep–are all ways to nurture our healing journey and support our health and well-being.
Finding gentle ways to support ourselves in our grief journey is life-affirming. Rekindling hope after our heart is broken open by finding ways to comfort ourselves in our loss is an act of self-care.
WAYS TO NURTURE HEALING
The pain of grief and loss may take some time to soften. So make the time to take some time for yourself.
Put on some comfy clothes, wrap yourself in a blanket of cosy, make a giant cup of warm cocoa and watch a gentle, soul-comforting movie. While it won't mend a broken heart, it will create some mental time out.
Rug up, pack a writing journal, water bottle or a thermos flask of something hot in your backpack and head outside into the fresh air. Walking is excellent for your health and well-being. It is also a wonderful way to allow your nervous system a chance to slow down and release stress and tension. This creates a healing space for broken hearts to catch a breather.

Journaling is a time-honoured way tool for developing self-awareness and is an ideal companion in your grief and healing journey. Capture thoughts and reflections in your journal along the way.
